Geek Chic Is Becoming Reality With Fashion Video Games. When I first saw on Twitter that video games were being created for the “fashion” female demographic I laughed.( I literally laughed out loud.) The thought of simulating IMG Fashion Week on my Nintendo Wii was way too weird to even consider. But, as the day progressed I thought I little bit more about the recent video game market. The Wii has boomed and re-invented the video game experience and Xbox isn’t doing too shabby either. So maybe its not so out of the ordinary as I thought. I came across the statistic that “Sixty-five percent of American households play computer or video games.” – GrabStats.com
With that stat among so many others, its no wonder why the likes of Project Runway are thinking about developing video games for Nintendo DS. There are already games like Style Savvy and Barbie Fashion Show that have been big hits. But, its not just a “game”. Some fashion brands are taking it to the next level and mixing the gaming experience with eCommerce. Quiksilver is supposedly in the works developing a game with Xbox that will allow players to design and virtually build jewelry that they can then order online from Artbeads.com. [Source: TheCutBlog]
This type of integrated gaming would definitely change how fashion brands interact and market to its consumers. A direct correlation to revenue and sales is always a plus for testing a new marketing tactic. I found it surprisingly refreshing that Peter Levy at IMG Fashion is very forward-thinking about assisting with a “simulated” video game about Fashion Week. Its a very new and a different direction that could be a tough path to pave. But if done right, putting an experience like Fashion Week in the hands of consumers thousands of miles away could be very empowering brand awareness for fashion designers. Its definitely a fashion marketing trend to keep in eye on in 2010. Isn’t the industry about forward thinking anyway?

Ok. I have second thoughts on the fashion video games. @QuiksilverUSA is developing a good strategy http://budurl.com/366m
