Today was my first official day as a fashion intern, and boy did I choose the wrong day. Of course a snow blizzard roars through Manhattan on my first day, where 1/2 the people I know had their work tell them not to come into the office. I figured, its fashion and people are hard core there is no way that work would be cancelled.
Sure enough I was right. When I got to the 11th floor, it was already busseling with loads of people and I was put straight to work because my manager was in a whirlwind and didnt have time to give me an intro. Literally within 2 minutes of me being in the office I was request to go upstairs to the 12th floor to help prepare the showroom for a video shoot. I and a few other interns helped clear the room, packing boxes full of miscellaneous items, and cleaning tables so they sparkled. I somehow fell in the lovely and awesome task of the accessories wall, which I got to fill with shoes, handbags, belts, and pillows.
I ran up and down stairs, took numerous rides in the elevator to the differnent floors, and then was called to help pull samples to send to Vogue Latin America, NY Mag, and People Magazine amoung some celebrity clientele. This was a bit confusing at first, since I had no training and there were rack and racks of clothes everywhere I turned. But after some help of another intern pal she showed me the ropes for processing loans, returning loans, and how each should be presented. It seems so simple, but it requires a ton of attention to detail and focus.
But of course, I got chosen to face the storm of the century and have to go to the Soho Store to pick up samples for a client. Thank goodness I bought a month Metro Card pass because I was orginally planning on walking everywhere until snow-magedon began. It was a good thing I did, as it was quite the trip in the snow. Picked up the samples, bundled them up and headed back uptown. For the rest of the day, I sorted through the fashion closet putting together samples for loans. It was such a busy day, but a good day.
